Hervaeus Natalis’s production includes different kinds of works. His theological works are influenced by the controversy continued over time with his confreres Durand of St. Pourçain and James of Metz, and with the Flemish theologian Henry of Ghent (De quatuor materiis sive Determiantiones contra magistrum Henricum de Gandavo). Hervaeus is author of a Commentary on the Sentences of Peter Lombard (Scriptum super IV libros Sententiarum), of some critical pronouncements against Durand of St. Pourçain and James of Metz (Evidentiae contra Durandum super quartum Sententiarum; De articulis Durandi pertinentibus ad IV libros Sententiarum; Correctiones supra dicta Durandi in primo Quolibet Avenionensi; Reprobationes excusationum Durandi; Correctorium Iacobi Mettensis), of eleven Quodlibeta, some of which are doubtful or inauthentic, and of various disputed questions (De cognitione primi principii; De processione Spiritus Sanctii; De peccato originali; De personis divinis). To Hervaeus is also attributed an abbreviation of some Quodlibeta by the Flemish theologian Godfrey of Fontaines (Abbreviatio Quodlibetorum III-XIII Gaufridi de Fontibus) and a sermon on Trinity.

In philosophy Hervaeus is author of an important treatise on first and second intentions (Tractatus de secundis intentionibus), of eight collections of treatises or questions on different topics (De beatitudine; De verbo; De aeternitate mundi; De materia coeli; De relationibus; De pluralitate [or unitate] formarum; De virtutibus; De motu angeli), some of which can be inauthentic, and of a question on relation against Durand of St. Pourçain (Quaestio de relatione Dei ad creaturas contra Durandum). To Hervaeus are also attributed some short commentaries on Aristotle's logical works (Commentum super librum Praedicamentorum; Super Aristotelis I-II Perihermeneias), on Porphyry (Tractatus super communitates Porphyrii), on Boethius (Super librum divisionum Boethii), and a short work on logic (Epilogus super novam logicam), but the authenticity of all these works is doubtful. He is also author of works on the poverty of Christ and Apostles (De paupertate Christi et apostolorum; De usu nudo), on the authority of the Pope (De potestate Papae), on the jurisdiction of the religious and the sacrament of marriage (De iurisdictione et exemptione religiosorum; Dicta de dissolubilitate matrimonii non consummati per susceptionem ordinis), a response on some common propositions (Responsiones propositionum communium) and of a work on the difficulties of the doctrine of Thomas Aquinas (Opinio de difficultatibus contra doctrinam fratris Thomae).
